Partnership with The Military Museums (TMM)

On March 31, 2010, Canada West Museums changed its name to Canada West Military Museums. Canada West Military Museums (CWMM) was created initially to conduct activities that would generate funds in support of The Military Museums (TMM) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Military Museums is Western Canada’s pre-eminent institution dedicated to preserving military heritage in the west, and is home to the following organizations:

  • Naval Museum of Alberta
  • Army Museum of Alberta
  • Air Force Museum of Alberta
  • Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Museum
  • Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Museum and Archives
  • The King's Own Calgary Regiment (Royal Canadian Armored Corps) Museum
  • The Calgary Highlanders Regimental Museum and Archives
  • The University of Calgary Military Museums Library and Archives

CWMM’s primary activity in support of The Military Museums is the planning and hosting of The Military Museums Gala in partnership with the Mountain Academy Society. The Mountain Academy Society recently assumed a mission to fund and deliver educational programming at The Military Museums. The Mountain Academy Society and Canada West Military Museums are proud to organize The Military Museums’ Gala 2011. The Gala is the major fundraising event for The Military Museums, with funds raised at the event going to support award-winning Educational programs at TMM.

Supporting the Military Museum Community

It is CWMM’s goal to build on its successful work in support of TMM, and to become a resource to the military museum community across Western Canada. CWMM has a vision of a Western Canada where military history is preserved, understood and celebrated. Its mission is to enhance the ability of Western Canadian military museums to connect with society and preserve military heritage.

Upholding a spirit of sharing and collaboration, CWMM will unite the Western Canadian military museum community to ensure its long-term sustainability.
